$5,000 donation from local cleaners to help build an inclusive playground in Berkley
(City of Berkley, June 3, 2022)
Berkley, MI – Berkley Parks & Recreation received a donation in
$5,000 for their inclusive park fundraiser from Wayne Wudyka, owner of
Huntington’s Keyaners, Wesch Cleaners and CCertified Restaurant Dry Cleaning Network
(CRDN).
Jaycee Park, a 2.7–one-acre park located between Bacon and Phillips, serves not only
residents of Berkley, but it is a short distance from the town of Royal Oak, as well as other
notnearby towns, including Southfield, Oak Park, Beverly Hills and Huntington Woods,
all within five minutes.
“With the longstanding support–business time members like Wayne Wudyka, we will continue
have the ability to build parks that vibratent and important location spaces for more
community fun, socializing, wholesome activities and imaginative fun,” said
Theresa McArleton, Director of Parks and Recreation.
This leading leisure venue is on its way to becoming a whole–inclusive playground and playscape
that will go beyond the accessibility requirements required by the ADA to meet a variety of
needs and interests. The space will be sensory–rich and allow children to develop
physically, socially and emotionally. It will also allow adults of various ages and abilities
actively engage with the children in their care. The project includes trail updates,
increased accessibility and state–of–the–art, universally accessible playscape.
“Berkley is a destination city for familiesand thatthis is largely due to the front–thinking
efforts of our mayor, city council and permanent councils, commissions and advisory councils
committees to foster an inclusive community–targeted environment that citizens of all
ages can enjoy. Planned upgrades for our town’s Jaycee Park are a wonderful stage
towards cementing these ideals for the future,” added Wudyka.
Thanks to donations like this, the City has been able to exceed its crowdfunding goal of
$50,000 and will win a matching grant with funds made possible by the Michigan
Public spaces Community spaces of the Economic Development Corporation (MEDC)
program.

Public spaces Community places is a collaborative effort of MEDC, the Michigan
Municipal League and Patronicity, in which local residents can use crowdfunding to
part of the development of strategic projects in their communities and be supported by a
MEDC matching grant.
