Pete Seibert and rancher Earl Eaton founded Vail Ski Resort, The Antlers at Vail announces its 50th Golden Anniversary celebration, spanning March 2022 through April 2023. An authentic ‘Old Vail’ favorite – with its enviable location by the creek and slopes in the family-friendly neighborhood of Lionshead – the Antlers also shine as an up-to-the-minute destination accommodation that’s part home away from home and part great escape. “From the beginning, our goal was to make everyone, from guests to staff, owners to community partners, always feel like an important member of our family, and that has never changed,” said Magda King, current Executive Director. and one of only three general managers since Antlers opened. Originally from Guayaquil, Ecuador, King rose through the ranks after coming aboard in 2007 and while there implemented significant changes, including an award-winning GED program for housekeeping staff. We’ve been so lucky to have so many owners and their early-day children still living in the Antlers – and even those who have sold come back to visit.

A fixture of Vail since opening, Antlers is conveniently nestled beside Gore Creek at the base of Vail Mountain, just a two-minute walk from the Eagle Bahn Gondola at Lionshead Village, which was being developed at the same time as Antlers , but now serves as the modern heart of the region. “Heart” is also a word used to describe the first General Manager, Bud Benedict, who is credited with inspiring an atmosphere of caring and cooperation between staff, owners and guests that continues to this day.

It speaks to the character and corporate culture of the Antlers that so many staff members have remained for decades, such as Millie Barela, who worked on the original cleanup crew in 1972 and then stayed on as housekeeper’s wife. household until his retirement in 2009, obtaining an Antlers conference room named in his honor. And then there’s Rob LeVine, who, after starting as a clerk in the late 1970s, became general manager for 29 years (the Antlers Conference Center now bears his name). Even today, some staff members have been at the Antlers for 10, 20 or even 30 years.

In the early 1990s, LeVine was the first to convert all of the hotel’s fireplaces from wood to gas, sparking a valley-wide effort to address air quality issues and spurring others housing to follow, culminating in a myriad green hotel accolades over the years for the Antlers. Then, from 2000 to 2002, LeVine led a comprehensive $22 million renovation for the property, adding 24 new condominiums and underground parking while doing the impossible by bringing 70 individual condominium owners together for the common cause. . This expansion served as the catalyst for the development of Lionshead Village into the pedestrian dining and shopping mecca it is today – including its recent ‘recommended destination’ accolades from mountain life.

Antlers at Vail has long been a standout in the Vail Valley, winning numerous awards including being named Business of the Year at the Vail Valley Partnership’s first-ever Excellence Awards Banquet nearly 20 years ago. years and King for being named Tourism Professional of the Year in 2017. Together, LeVine and King have also embarked on an 18-month project in collaboration with the owners of the Antlers, updating and modernizing the condominiums aiming for the rating Vail Valley’s coveted Platinum Lodging Quality Assurance, which the hotel earned in 2015. And recently, King oversaw a $5 million Lobby and Reception expansion and renovation project which included the creation of new staff offices and the installation of a new high-speed elevator.

In addition to its community affinity, Antlers’ reputation for connecting with guests in a unique and individual way — stories abound of weddings performed, decades of family reunions held on the property, and the friendliness of the staff, great and small – is based on everyday life. day, an ultra-personalized customer service which results in a array of amenities, many of which are free.
