The latest addition to Hilton & Moss’ impeccable restoration offering is an exquisite 1963 Jaguar E-Type Series 1, transformed by the company’s seasoned crews from a highly original barn find into a truly exquisite, better-than-life example. new vehicle. considered by none other than Enzo Ferrari as “the most beautiful car in the world”.
One of just 7,600 Series 1 3.8-litre E-Types ever made, the vehicle is a rare, early, completely original, high-spec example of the iconic model, transported to the USA for a low-mileage life under the California sun. . Discovered in its original condition hidden from the outside world, the vehicle was repatriated to the UK – destined to be fully restored to its former glory.
Tasked with bringing the stunning coupe back to life, Hilton & Moss used their proven end-to-end restoration program to give the beautiful ’60s sports car the makeover it deserved.
As with every restoration project vehicle entrusted to Hilton & Moss, the E-Type has undergone a meticulous assessment, starting with visual inspections through to a complete teardown of the vehicle, analyzing its condition down to the smallest detail. to establish the required treatment. .
Preparing the vehicle for a transition to its original opalescent golden sand paint, the shell and bolt-on panels are carefully soda blasted, giving shop technicians a complete look at the condition of the body.
The first stage of the example’s transformation sees its exterior components fully restored from every nut and bolt to every body panel. With chrome elements delivered to specialist partners for expert treatment, the vehicle’s bodyshell and doors are fully prepared on site for its rich new paint job. The vehicle is meticulously coated with polyester primer and rubbed gray primer and placed in a rollover jig to receive its new coats of paint and lacquer – completed in Hilton & Moss’ five-cabin paint shop, approved by the manufacturer.
As the sumptuous paint job receives a thorough inspection under the watchful eyes of the paint shop crew, the suspension units are inspected and adjusted with equal care, while new seals and rubber mountings are fitted throughout. the vehicle.
A beautiful makeover for every restoration project, the E-Type’s rich red interior is treated from the floorboards to a complete finish, made to precise customer specifications. Effortlessly merging classic elegance with modern convenience, the Type E is equipped with a five-speed transmission, electric power steering and ignition, complete with a state-of-the-art audio system incorporating Bluetooth functionality – the all surrounded by beautifully traditional fascia.
