KISD Shows Love for Custodians Appreciation Day | KWKT
KILLEEN, Texas – Today is Guardian Appreciation Day, a day dedicated to the men and women who keep our schools tidy and clean for our children.
Never has this been more important than in the days of COVID. KISD celebrated its caretakers by listening to Cleaning Services Coordinator Roy Harris.
Roy has been with KISD for 36 years and is loved by all students, staff and faculty.
Roy said when COVID hit it completely changed the way guards had to do their jobs. It’s not just about cleaning at night when schools are empty, but making sure they always stay clean.
Roy also said their work is for children and that he is grateful to be part of the KISD family.
“I might not be feeling well today, because a babysitter was talking not so long ago, she was not feeling well, but she knows why she is doing what she is doing,” he said. -he declares. “The most important reason for doing this is to make sure that these children, when they come to school, have a cleaner job than a lot to learn.”
“And so we want to make sure that the environment is clean for them,” he added. “And it also brings pride in knowing that you’re making a difference in someone’s life, you know, and that’s what I try to instill in all the gatekeepers. Never forget why we do what we do.
Roy continues to say that he hopes all the keepers understand why their jobs are so important.
