NYSEG adds smart technology to Macedonian network

NYSEG has added new technology to its distribution network in Macedonia that it says will result in fewer and shorter outages.
The utility says the automatic grid restoration program will create a more reliable and resilient energy grid for its 3,100 Macedonian customers.
âWe are excited to bring this impactful cutting edge technology to our customers in Macedonia,â said Eddie Mulholland, Director of Energy Control Centers at AVANGRID, the parent company of NYSEG. âSmart circuit devices on AGR schematics can dramatically speed up recovery times for our customers. In fact, these devices usually work within minutes of a fault appearing to immediately restore some clients. In addition, AGR programs will help us reduce our carbon footprint. Since we receive location information from smart devices, we can send our teams directly to the location of the outage instead of having them patrol the circuit for miles to locate the problem.
NYSEG is also adding smart circuit devices that can detect, for example, a tree that has fallen on a line and temporarily change the network that supplies customers, allowing for faster restoration of service.
