Pass It On volunteers distribute essentials to homeless people in Worcester

Volunteers from the homeless charity Pass It On traveled to Worcester yesterday (Thursday, May 20) to distribute hot drinks, food and essential care items to the city’s homeless people .

The team also worked with Caring for Communities and People (CCP), which supports homeless people staying at the Fownes Hotel, to provide care for their 30 clients.

This activity is part of Pass It On’s spring campaign, which will see its volunteers travel to cities across the UK to personally deliver care kits to homeless communities.

Pass It On was founded by Britain’s largest newspaper and magazine wholesaler Jon Bunting, CEO of Smiths News, in 2016 and became a registered charity last year.

Since its founding, it has supported over 4,500 homeless and vulnerable people across the country – and has received more than £ 30,000 in donations.

This year, Pass It On’s spring campaign coincides with the continued easing of government restrictions in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

While this is welcomed by most people across the country, for the homeless community, it is quite the opposite; many homeless people who were accommodated in temporary housing at the start of the pandemic will soon have no choice but to return to life on the streets.

Jon Bunting, CEO of Smiths News, said: “Just as the homeless community began to think their lives were getting back on track, to have a roof over their heads and to have a positive feeling on the future, many of them are returning now, so this year our spring campaign is even more imperative than usual.

“On Thursday, volunteers helped provide extra support to Worcester’s most vulnerable people, delivering packages filled with essentials including toiletries, nutritious snacks and drinks – these are things that are often taken for granted by so many of us. but it can be difficult to find or exceed the means of those who live on the streets.

“But what makes this campaign really special is that these essential items are hand-delivered by someone who is willing to take the time to have a conversation and make a connection.”

Pass It On runs two major campaigns during the year – as well as its spring campaign, its winter campaign takes place in January.
